Important Changes to your Child's Teachers

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we approach the end of September, I am required to ensure that our budget and staffing decisions are aligned with the number of students registered at the school, which determines our funding for the year. For a variety of reasons, our enrollment is significantly below our projections and about 3% below our cautious spring budget. In a school of our size, this is equivalent to one teacher position.

The good news is that we were able to make necessary adjustments without changing any homerooms at this time. This means that our average class size remains just under 28 students.

However, you are receiving this email because your child's class is impacted by changes of teaching assignments, which are as follows:

  • Math 9-5 and 9-6 will be taught by Ms. Greendale
  • Science 8-1 will be taught by Ms. McIntyre
  • Science 8-2 will be taught by Ms. Borrelli
  • Math 8-4 will be taught by Mr. Reese
  • Math 8-10 will be taught by Ms. Ness
  • French 8 will be taught by Ms. Laurendeau
  • Design 9 will be taught by Mr. Hall

These changes will be effective starting Wednesday, October 1. In making these decisions, a variety of scenarios were considered. This final decision was the one which best aligned with Calgary Board of Education staffing policies while impacting the smallest number of students and ensuring that courses are taught by subject matter experts.

Mr. Prosser will be moving on to an opportunity at another school. His significant contributions to our school community will be deeply missed by students, staff, and myself. We know that students have valued his support and engaging lessons. This change may bring up strong emotions for some students; we ask for your partnership in those cases and trust that you will support your child while raising any concerns with us as needed. Change can be hard at any age, and helping students navigate the challenges and opportunities that change brings is an important part of our work.

Sincerely,

David Pugh

Principal
