Dear Vincent Massey families,
This week's update comes to you a day early, as there is no school tomorrow, April 18, for the Good Friday holiday. There is also no school for students on Monday, April 21, as this is a professional development day. Since staff will be working in different sites across the city, the office will be closed.
Ernest Manning High School will be hosting a Visual and Performing Arts Night on April 23 from 6pm to 7pm. This night will showcase learning through the arts. Their students have assembled art pieces, films, acts, and songs to showcase their fine arts program. All are welcome, particularly students in Grade 9 designated to Manning for next year.
We have exciting news to share in our own building as Court Rustemeyer has been selected as one of 35 educators from across North America for a National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship, a transformative professional learning opportunity through the National Geographic Society and Lindblad Expeditions. He recently went to Washington DC, for the launch of this year's fellowship. Later in the year, he will be joining an expedition to Antarctica. Rusty is looking forward to deepening his understanding of our planet, connecting with global educators, and bringing those experiences back to his students, community, and professional network. He also asked me to extend his thanks to all the students and families who have supported his work, particularly his commitment to adventure-based learning. More information on this program can be found here: https://news.nationalgeographic.org/lindblad-expeditions-and-the-national-geographic-society-announce-17th-annual-grosvenor-teacher-fellowship-cohort/
On the subject of travel, a group of Grade 9's will be meeting at the airport very early on Sunday morning. They will be traveling to Quebec City, Montreal, and Ottawa, for one week to learn about Canadian history, culture, and politics. We look forward to hearing about their adventures, and they will be sharing their learning with their peers in a structured way later in May and June.
