Dear Vincent Massey families,
There's a real buzz of winter spirit in the building as we approach the last week of classes before the break. Unfortunately, I will be missing out this year, as I am on a medical leave starting today with an anticipated return date of January 5, which is the first day back from the winter break. Meghann Springett will be Acting Principal while I'm away, and I know that I'm leaving the school in familiar and highly capable hands.
I really regret having missed the winter band concert last night. It's always a great celebration, not only of the season but also of our music students' achievement. Thank you to Mr. Morawski for his amazing work in getting students 'performance-ready' through a disrupted fall term.
Thank you also to our wrestling coaches - Mr. Geraldi, Mr. Hall, and Ms. Anderson. They put together a successful abbreviated wrestling season which supported a safe and enjoyable experience for all the athletes. At our tournament this week, senior boys and senior girls both won their divisions. Vincent Massey athletes also won the overall performance pennant with 154 points over eleven other schools! Wrestling is a demanding sport, and all our student athletes should be proud of themselves for competing.
Next week, we will have a few different events going on, ending with our winter activity day on Friday, December 19, which is the last day of classes before the break. Thank you to the parent association for their support in funding these activities. Their next meeting will be on the first Wednesday after school returns (January 7); meanwhile, families interested in learning more about the parent association can review minutes posted on our website.
I hope you have a restful and enjoyable holiday and I look forward to returning in the New Year.
Sincerely,
David Pugh
Principal
