Dear Vincent Massey Families,
I want to start out with a huge thank you to Mr. Morawski, our band teacher, for the amazing show that we enjoyed yesterday evening. His talent and dedication to our music program were evident in so many ways, not only in the Grade 7's being able to play two great pieces after only a few months of instruction but also in the incredibly challenging performances mastered by our Grade 9's. All these students are to be commended for their hard work and achievement in music.
I would also to like to thank Ms. Esau for revitalizing our guitar program and showcasing a few of these students at the show. Thank you also to the Band Parent Association for the tireless support of this program, as well as to all band parents for their support of students in so many ways.
As we enter our final week of classes before the break, we want to take other opportunities to celebrate the season. With that in mind, our leadership classes have arranged the following theme days:
· Monday – Hawaii/Beach Day
· Tuesday – Hat Day
· Wednesday – Twin Day
· Thursday – "Dress Like a Celebrity" (or historical figure, or someone whom you admire)
· Friday – PJ/Festive Day
These theme days are optional, informal opportunities to have some festive fun! More information is posted around the school for students.
This coming Friday, December 20, will be turned over to homeroom and school activities that help build community and sense of belonging for students. The day will begin in homeroom, with time for some sharing and reflection. After the nutrition break, we will transition to whole school activities, including a dance for those who wish to participate. Students will be given the opportunity to choose activities in their classes early in the week, although unfortunately we can't guarantee that every student will get their first choice, due to space and supply constraints. Thank you to the Parent Association for subsidizing the dance and providing a photo booth for students.
There will not be a Weekly Update on Dec 20, so a few key dates for the first weeks of school in January are included below.
- December 16 – Grade 8 Leonardo Da Vinci Guest Speaker
- December 17 – Grade 7 Outdoor Education Rock Climbing
- December 18 – Fun Lunch
- December 20 – Winter Dance and Activities
- January 8 – School Council Meeting, 6:30pm in the Learning Commons
- January 8 - Fun Lunch
- January 14 – ODL Ski Trip Parent Meeting, 7pm
- January 15 – Wrestling Meet at Vincent Massey, 5pm-7pm
The last day of classes before the break is Friday, December 20; the first day of classes after the break is Monday, January 6. The school office is closed during this period and some CBE websites, such as PowerSchool, may be down periodically for system maintenance.
Wishing you all a wonderful Winter Break,
David Pugh
