Dear Vincent Massey families,

This week I attended meetings of our School Council and Parent Association on Wednesday evening, followed by our Band Parent Association on Thursday evening. We are so appreciative of the support of the parents who have given their time to these organizations.


The Vincent Massey Parent Association approved funding for several initiatives around the school, including additional technology resources, science enrichment, math learning enhancements, supplemental PE equipment, and other items. These results of your fundraising efforts significantly improve the learning and well-being of all students at Massey. Please consider attending the next meetings of these organizations on January 7, for both School Council and the Vincent Massey Parent Association, and January 8 for the Vincent Massey Band Parent Association.


Our Winter Band concert is next Thursday evening, December 11, at 6:30pm. This free performance is open to all members of our school community. Come out and celebrate the season with music at Massey!


As communicated last week, our high schools have confirmed tour dates for students in January and these dates can be found on our website calendar. High school guidance counsellors will be coming to Vincent Massey to speak to Grade 9 students about course offerings and selection processes on January 22, immediately after the lunch break.


Mr. Rustemeyer will be away for the remaining two weeks of the term as he heads off to Antarctica tomorrow as part of the National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellowship. We’re proud of Rusty for his accomplishment and excited for the teaching and learning experience that he will be bringing back to students at Massey. Here are the key dates for the last two weeks heading into the winter break:

  • December 8 – Grade 8/9 Drama Students to Central Memorial High School for play performance
  • December 9 – Wrestling Divisional Meet @ Genesis Centre in Falconridge (full day)
  • December 11 – Winter Band Concert, 6:30pm in south gym. Dress rehearsal in the afternoon with students from Wildwood and Westgate schools.
  • December 19 – Winter Activity Day, last day of classes before Winter Break
