Dear Vincent Massey Families,

It has been a busy week here at Massey!

We held our first lockdown drill of the year, with Calgary Police present. Students were well-behaved and cooperative throughout and we're confident that we are ready to respond to emergencies in our building.

School Council and Parent Association meetings were held on Wednesday evening and I want to thank those parents who attended. Your support and feedback was appreciated, as it helps us to improve our processes to support families and students. Approved minutes are posted on our school website. The Parent Association has asked me to share the following message:

As a token of our appreciation for all that the teachers do, we have organized a Teacher Appreciation Sign-Up where parents can contribute treats for the teachers before Christmas. This is a wonderful opportunity to show our gratitude and spread some holiday cheer. Thank you for your support!

The Parent Association has also made good progress getting volunteers for our casino fundraiser in February but there are still many spots available.  This is a volunteer-run event, no experience is necessary, and meals are provided. The casino is an integral part of our fundraising at Vincent Massey School, raising tens of thousands of dollars which supports enrichment opportunities, learning tools, and field trip experiences for students.  Please visit this link for more information and to sign up: Vincent Massey Casino Fundraiser

Volunteering for Teacher Appreciation and the Casino does NOT require volunteer clearance, as these roles do not involve working with students.

Since I was busy attending School Council, I sadly wasn't able to attend our last basketball game or the wrestling meet. The Senior Girls put up a valiant effort against a strong team from Branton – congratulations again to these athletes for a great season! The wrestling meet was a big success, and I received an email from the host school complementing our coaches and athletes on their positive attitude and sportsmanship. We look forward to a fun wrestling season ahead.

Our Winter Activity Day has been confirmed for Friday, December 20 (not Dec. 19 as previously announced).  We will have a variety of activities for students to pick from, including a dance and the always-popular photo booth. Thank you to the Parent Association for their support of this event.
