Dear Vincent Massey families,

With the return of winter weather, we've been keeping the school spirits warm with a range of different activities.

First of all, a huge thank you to Mr. Morawski and a great group of parent volunteers for running four successful band festival trips this week. Our band students enjoyed playing in a beautiful venue at the University of Calgary and they received some valuable feedback from the adjudicators.

On Wednesday evening, I really enjoyed Mr. Rustemeyer's Antarctica presentation. I was particularly impressed by the student leaders, who introduced him with some thoughtful words on what it means to be an explorer and how this connects to lifelong learning.

All Grade 7 students take our "Thrive" well-being class as part of our complementary course "wheel."  This class supports them with study skills and wellness as they make the transition into junior high school. The current class gave back to our community by making Valentine's cards for residents of the Cedars Villa retirement home in Spruce Cliff. Thank you to those classes and their teachers for brightening our community.

Volleyball season continues, with some exciting games this week and a senior teams tournament at Ernest Manning High School today. To make sport accessible to more students,  we've also been running a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at lunch time. This addition to our regular club offerings has been very popular with participants and spectators alike!

While all of this has been going on, teachers have been busy with report cards. If your child is on an IPP (Individualized Program Plan), this will be coming home today. Report cards will be released on Tuesday, February 24 through MyCBE. I will be sending a more detailed message about report cards on Tuesday. Please review these important documents with your child, in conjunction with the week-to-week assessment information in PowerSchool.

Parent-teacher conferences will take place on March 19 (evening) and 20 (daytime.)  These conferences are the main opportunity to meet with your child's teachers. If you have immediate questions about report cards and IPPs, please email the relevant teachers and allow a few days for a comprehensive response before trying to book a meeting outside of the conference times. More information on conferences will come out later next week.
