Dear Vincent Massey Families,
There are lots of updates this week, so I will get straight to those items.
Firstly, please note that we have wrapped our last session of Massey Mastery for the year. With grade 9s writing PATs next week, the library will be closed in preparation for these exams.
Our focus this coming week will be on those PATs for Grade 9s and regular routines for Grade 7s and 8s. As with the first PAT, Grade 9s with parental permission may leave school after their exams; students remaining at school will follow their regular schedule in the afternoon. To reduce the load on our office staff, please email this permission to vincentmassey@cbe.ab.ca, rather than calling the attendance line and you can say for which days.
Grade 9's are looking forward to their farewell celebration on Monday, June 23. The organizing committee is looking for white string lights (Christmas, patio, etc.) that can be used to decorate the gym. If you are able to lend some, please drop off labeled lights in the band room by Thursday, June 19. They will be available for pickup on Tuesday, June 24.
As a general reminder for the Grade 9 celebration, Ceremony 1 is from 10:00am – 11:30am and is for homerooms 1/3/4/5/9; Ceremony 2 is from 12:30pm – 2:00pm and is for homerooms 2/6/7/8/10. Due to fire code and gym capacity, each grade 9 student will be allowed to invite two guests only. Any additional guests that arrive to the ceremony will not be admitted. While we anticipate that many Grade 9s will only be at school for their ceremony, we will provide a supervised area for students attending during our regular school hours of 9:10 am to 3:44pm. More detailed instructions will be given to students in class on Friday, June 20.
Grade 7 and 8 students will be participating in full-day trips on June 23 to Edworthy and Calaway Park. More details will be sent by homeroom teachers.
At Vincent Massey, we recognize the importance of daily physical activity. To support engagement in sport outside of school, I wanted to highlight All Sport One Day, which is a fantastic, free sport discovery event designed specifically for children and youth aged 6 to 17. It offers a unique opportunity for young participants to try out a new sport or physical activity in a fun and supportive environment. Whether your child is curious about learning a new skill or simply eager to get active, this event is an excellent way to introduce them to the world of sports without any financial commitment. By participating, kids can explore different sports, discover their interests, and potentially find a new passion, all while making new friends and staying active. All Sport One Day 2025 will be held on Saturday, June 21 and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Follow @SportCalgary on social media or sign-up for their newsletter for updates! As students transition into High School, many of them will be taking transit for the first time. Each year, CBE collaborates with CCSD and Calgary Transit to provide a free orientation program that provides an opportunity for new and first-time transit riders to increase their comfort level and ability to ride Calgary Transit safely and efficiently to and from school. The orientation includes different stations for families to visit to learn more about route planning, fares, how to ride the bus or C-Train, safety features, rider etiquette and much more. Session Dates and times are Wednesday, Aug. 13 from 5 – 8 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sessions run every half-hour and last approx. 1 hour. Calgary Transit and CBE Transportation staff will be available to answer questions at these sessions. Link: https://cbe.ab.ca/schools/busing-and-transportation/Pages/calgary-transit-orientations.aspx
