Dear Vincent Massey families,
Last night was our annual spring band concert. Once again, it was a great experience to see the collective efforts of our many band students manifested in some really impressive performances. Thank you to the Band parent association for organizing a very successful bake sale, which netted over $1800 in support of our instrument replacement program. Thank you most of all to Mr. Morawski for his hard work over the year.
Congratulations to our badminton athletes! We wrapped up our divisional tournaments this week with first place finishes from our Grade 8 and 9 teams, and a second place for Grade 7! Thank you to the many teachers who volunteered to coach our badminton teams.
Congratulations also to our Grade 7 and 8 participants in the Gauss Math contest. Fifteen students participated, all earning very respectable scores. Particular kudos to Kira, Mae, Ngoc Que Chi, Tian, and Cheryl, who got 'distinction' results on their tests.
Our first Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Test is next week on May 21. As shared last week, there will be some changes to the period order for all grades on PAT days, and a late lunch – all students are reminded to bring a morning snack if needed. Grade 9 students may leave after their PATs are completed with parent permission. To support office staff, please indicate your permission using a Microsoft Form, which will be sent out to Grade 9 families early next week and do not call this absence in. Students remaining at school will be provided with time for review in their scheduled classes, possibly with some merging of classes given that many Grade 9 students do leave. Students who are exempt from PATs will be assigned to a grade 8 class for the morning if they attend school, as they cannot be with students who are writing.
Here are your other upcoming events:
- May 15 – PD day, no school for students
- May 19 – reschedule date for Grade 7 Drumheller trip – 7-1, 7-2, and 7-8
- May 20 – Grade 8 Outdoor Leadership Trip departs for West Coast
- May 21 – Grade 9 English Language Arts Provincial Achievement Test, modified bell schedule with lunch for all students from 1:12 to 1:52. Students will have the opportunity to have snacks in their morning classes as needed.
All the best,
David Pugh
