Dec 4-8 Update and December Events

Key December Events can be found at the bottom of this post.

Dear Vincent Massey community,

Just a few items as we head into our last few weeks before the winter break.  My apologies for the delay with the message this week.

Thank you to students, staff, and Calgary Police members for your support of our lockdown practice this week. The officers commented on how well our school performed, with staff  and students following all the required procedures. We understand that these drills can be stressful for students but they are important in preparing to respond to emergencies in the building. We will have another lockdown drill in the spring.

This Wednesday, December 6, we will host our monthly school council meeting in the learning commons at 6:30pm, immediately followed by the parent association meeting.  Mr. Andrew Cull, our math/science learning leader, will be presenting on the math components of our school development plan, as well as a few initiatives with funding requests for the parent association.  That generous support this year has already supported student learning and well-being in many ways including new technology for the learning commons, computer labs, and classrooms, as well as our upcoming winter activity day.  Come find out more at the meeting – all are welcome!

Also in our calendar for this week, we have a Grade 9 band concert at the Jubilee Auditorium on Monday evening (December 4).  On Thursday afternoon (December 7), Grade 9 students designated to Ernest Manning High School will be going on tours there.

There is no school this coming Friday (December 8), as it is a Professional Development day. Our Math team will be at Riverside School participating in workshops; our Complementary and Phys-Ed teams will be working on assessment of first trimester classes; and our Humanities team will be working on strategies to support writing instruction and students whose first language is not English.

Sincerely,

David Pugh

Principal
