Weekly Update Dec 15

Good afternoon Vincent Massey families,

This will be the last weekly update before the Winter Break.  The last day of classes is Friday, December 22.  The school will be closed until the first day of classes on Monday, January 8.

There is a school council meeting scheduled on Wednesday, January 10, in the learning commons.

Our second trimester started this past Monday, December 11.  We are still working through a few scheduling issues and students should keep an eye on their PowerSchool for changes.  In almost all cases, these few changes involve swapping periods to balance class sizes.  For example, a student who previously had Art in period 3 and Drama in period 4 might have Drama in period 3 and Art in period 4.  In a few cases, students may have a different option class this trimester, with one of their choices being deferred to Trimester 3.  If they have concerns or questions, they should come to the office.

Last night, we hosted our Winter Concert.  All of our bands did an amazing job, with the Grade 7's performing for the very first time.  Thank you to the parents, teachers, and student volunteers who made the night possible!

After the break, we will have our volleyball team tryouts starting right away.  Games will start a couple of weeks later.  Students can check the bulletin board outside the PE office for information, or speak to a PE teacher.

This coming Friday, students will celebrate the winter break with an activity day, supported by the generosity of our parent association. These events are being organized by Ms. Weimer and Ms. Bonneau's leadership classes, who asked me to share the following:

Get ready for a day of winter fun at Vincent Massey on Fri., Dec. 22!  Our Winter Activities Day is set to bring students together for a day filled with excitement.  Students were asked to pre-select their preferred activities and will be sorted into a variety of activities ranging from a lively school dance with special guest, DJ Hurricane, photobooth, favourite holiday movie, snacks and more. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated members of our School Council for generously contributing their time and financial support, making this Winter Activities Day an experience for all.

Last but not least, a big advance thank you to parents who have contributed to our staff appreciation on Monday. Every single day, I feel incredibly fortunate to be working with such a talented and hardworking group of professionals. Thank you for supporting them as they work to advance the learning of each student every day.

I hope that this holiday season brings you joy and time to connect with family and loved ones.

Happy New Year,

David Pugh
