Weekly Update for Oct 23-27

Dear Vincent Massey Families,

With no students at school today, we have been spending our time working on task design and assessment.  This work is built on our core belief that every student should feel that they can be successful in their learning, and see a pathway for continued growth.  It's hard work creating learning tasks that are universally accessible and rewarding for a diverse student body.  That's why I'm so grateful for the gift of time provided by professional development days, as well as for our hardworking and talented team of teachers.

It looks like we will have our first taste of winter next week.  Students will be given the option of staying in the school building at lunch going forward.  The expectation is that students in the building are eating their lunch reasonably quietly and not running around.  Our cell phone policy continues to be "away for the day" and "outside only", so students wanting to use their phones at lunch still need to go outside. In general, we believe everyone benefits from time outside, so we encourage students to come dressed for the weather and get some fresh air at lunch.  Students who choose to leave school property (to Circle K, Dairy Queen, etc.) must still behave responsibly in the community, in alignment with the CBE student code of conduct.

Huge congratulations to our Girls' Soccer Team, who won the division final this week and are champions for a second year in a row.  Thank you to Ms. Springett for coaching the team through a fun season.  Our Outdoor Leadership group had a very successful overnight trip last weekend for the Grade 9's, as well as a skills camp for the Grade 8's on Thursday.

This coming week is a bye week for basketball, so there are no games.

In other events, Band Camp for Grade 8 & 9 will be taking place this week and our clubs continue to run on schedule, including Shop Club after school this Thursday.

Lastly, we are starting to get some information from our high schools regarding open houses and tours. Current dates are provided below; we will share out additional information as it becomes available.

Warmest regards,

David Pugh

Principal
