Dear Vincent Massey families,

As we reach the end of a busy September, we have much to celebrate and many exciting things ahead.

First of all, I'm pleased to share that Mr. Andrew Cull has been appointed the acting Assistant Principal of Pineridge School. This role is a recognition of Andrew's skills and experience not only as a teacher but also a leader in education. This change is effective starting October 13 and we are now working to staff Andrew's current teaching position (7-01 and 7-02 Math and Science.)

This past week, we recognized Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Once again, we were honoured to host Blackfoot Knowledge Keeper Anita Crowshoe, who spent time with Indigenous students and raised a teepee with them. Ms. Springett and I enjoyed leading community walks with our new students to learn about the history of our land.

On Monday, October 5, 2026, grade 7 students will view a live performance of "Where Have All the Buffalo Gone?" presented by Axis Theatre Company, which explores powerful stories of love, kinship, and resilience across seven periods of Métis history. While this is timely with respect to last week's learning, it also has strong connections to the Grade 7 Social Studies curriculum.

Next week will also be a busy one for sports, with soccer playoffs and the start of basketball season. Students and families are reminded of our expectations for basketball spectators. Most importantly, All visiting student spectators/athletes must be under the direct supervision of a designated adult for the duration of the games. In the spirit of building our community, Ms. Springett and I are happy to support Vincent Massey students who want to attend home games without parents/guardians, provided they are following these other league guidelines:

  • There are no in and out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building, you should not re-enter.
  • Student cell phones must remain in bags. No photos or recordings can be made by students. This is a privacy concern for the athletes from all teams. Parents are asked to be mindful if they are taking photos or videos of their child. The privacy of other student athletes should be considered.
  • All spectators - students or adults - are expected to cheer and support in a positive manner.
  • Disrespectful behaviours will be addressed by school administration promptly and may result in spectators being directed to leave the game and the school building.
  • Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible at all times for their direct supervision. Please ensure that they are not wandering the halls and playing on phys-ed equipment in the gym/on stage.

This November will be the parent association's casino fundraiser. We need lots of volunteers to work this event, which is the cornerstone of our ongoing fundraising efforts. Volunteers do not need CBE volunteer clearances, as this event is not with students or at the school. This year's casino is on November 19 and 20 at the Elbow River Casino.
